Fred Olsen was company was founded in the year 1848 by Petter Olsen and also a largest company based in Oslo, Norway. Today, the holding company is controlled by Olsen’s family through Bonheur and Ganger Rolf.
During Petter Olsen period that is during the year 1821-1899, the company was founded by him and by the time of his death, (1848), the company had 16 ships including offices in Hvitsten. Thomas Fredrick “Fred” Olsen (1857-1933) who is the son of Petter Olsen took in control of the company and introduced many powerful multinational ships in to the business. His idea towards the business was to provide a high quality and luxurious journey for all the people. So, by 1914, the first motor ship was launched by him and made it to sail on the South American Line.
Then, the control of the company was taken by Fred Olsen’s sons Rudolf Olsen and Thomas Olsen after the death of Fred Olsen. During their control of the company, they expanded the company by entering aviation business which is with its own airlines. During the year 1951, Rudolf expired and Thomas Olsen was also ill-health, died later during the year 1969.
Thomas Olsen also named his son as Fred Olsen and he took the control of the company after the death of Rudolf. In the early 1970, he started the offshore business. Slowly, the company entered into tanking business and since 1997, Fred Olsen cruises have started to sail from United Kingdom.
